When Do I Receive My Green Card After the Interview?
You will not receive your green card immediately if you are interviewed outside the U.S. and the consular officer approves your application. Until the official green card arrives, the officer will only stamp your passport to indicate approval of permanent residency.
A sealed immigration packet will be given to you, allowing you to travel to the United States, which should not be opened.
A customs officer will collect and check your sealed immigration packet once you arrive at a U.S. port of entry.
The officer may decide to grant or deny you entry after checking your packet.
You will be able to enter the U.S. as a permanent resident if you are granted entry at the port of entry, and your official green card will be mailed to you a few weeks after your arrival.
How can a Green Card help international students?
Higher tuition fees are charged to out-of-state and foreign students by many universities, colleges and technical schools in the United States. There are states where their college fees are 50% more expensive for international students.
This means that if you have a Green Card, you would be considered an in-state resident and you wouldn’t have to pay that amount, therefore you would save a lot of money!
Also as a permanent resident, you could apply for financial aid if needed to eliminate the tuition costs.
To summarize the procedure there are five steps:
1. Applicants apply;
2. Applicants are selected at random using a computer;
3. The selected applicants are then screened through an interview process;
4. Those that pass the screening process are awarded immigrant visas and
5. Upon entry into the U.S., they are awarded their green card.

Although permanent residents in the United States are legally allowed to live and work, they hold citizenship in another country.
Whereas, an alien identification card, also known as a Green Card, is issued to those who are granted U.S. permanent resident status.
What benefits do asylum seekers get in the US?
There are a few benefits that asylum seekers have in the US.
Asylum seekers are eligible for Social Security Payments, Medicaid, and Food Stamps for the first seven years after being granted asylum, and a number of other benefits and services.
Eligibility can extend beyond the first seven years for many of these programs.

USCIS Form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative),
USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information),
USCIS Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence),
USCIS Form I-693 (Medical Examination Results),
USCIS Form I-864 (Affidavit of Support),
USCIS Form I-765 (Permission for Work Authorization) which is optional and
USCIS Form I-131 (Request for Travel Documents) also optional.
How many Green Cards are distributed every year?
About 1 million individuals get green cards per year to reside in the United States.
The annual quota is around 220,000 for family-based immigrants.
For employment-based immigrants, 140,000 and for the visa lottery, 50,000.
Over 4 million people are currently waiting in line for green cards due to these annual quotas and the 7 percent per country cap.
However, there is no quota for immediate relatives of U.S. citizens which include parents, spouses and children.
